The South Beach diet is great for weight loss. It is easy to follow because it designates specific foods that you can and cannot eat. You can find many recipes that work well with this diet.
With the South Beach diet, you can eat healthy and get slimmer without starving yourself.
The South Beat diet is made up of three phases. Although the South Beach diet and the Atkins diet are similar in some ways, the South Beach diet is low-carbohydrate only during the first phase.
Phase 1 is the shortest part of the South Beach diet program. However, it is also the strictest because it forces you to eliminate most of your carbs. This is done to so that you stop eating foods that cause cravings. This phase lasts for only two weeks.
During Phase 1, you eat three meals and snacks. You eat portions in sizes that you are used to - You don't need to count calories or limit your food intake.
During this phase, you should eat mostly lean meats, such as chicken, beef, or fish. In addition, you can eat vegetables, eggs, cheese, nuts and garden salads with olive oil dressings. Eat until you feel fool. It's suggested that you drink lots of water.
You must eliminate foods with a high glycemic index, that is, foods that cause your blood sugar level to rise right after you eat them. These foods include candy, cake, ice cream, potatoes, rice, bread and fruit.
During Phase 1, you should also avoid alcohol.
Most of the foods that you avoid during Phase 1 will be reintroduced to your diet in the last two phases of the program.
Meal Guides
Here are the meal guides for Phase 1:
Breakfast - There is no limit to your protein intake. However, you must choose lean meats found in the "foods allowed" list. Examples of foods allowed are chicken breast, lean-cuts of beef, tenderloin pork, low-fat cheese, eggs and meat substitutes. When it comes to vegetables, you can eat only allowed foods listed in the food guidelines. In this phase, you are not allowed to eat fruits, milk and starches. You can have use one teaspoon of mayonnaise or oil at breakfast.
Lunch and Dinner - As with the breakfast guide, you can eat an unlimited amount of protein. You are allowed two cups of vegetables with each meal. You can't have any milk, starches or fruits. You can include one tablespoon of oil or mayonnaise at lunch and one tablespoon at dinner.
Snacks - You must eat snacks. You can have nuts as a snack or any protein or vegetable on the food list. |
