Breaking Old Habits

Some of us love food and when we were children this was a good thing. But when we became adults we noticed that all the food we love and ate started staying with us and little by little we packed on the pounds without even realizing it. Breaking this nasty habit can be hard - but luckily there are steps to take that can make things just a little bit easier.

1. Keep a meal journal

Keeping a journal of every meal you eat everyday will help you to keep track of how healthy you are eating (or how un-healthy). You want to log in how many meals you are eating a day, what you ate, how much you ate, and what you had to drink (remember that sodas, sugar drinks, and alcohol can pack on the pounds too). Let this be your accountability tool.

2. Doggy Bag Please!

Sometimes when we go out to eat we find it difficult not to want everything we see on the menu because we don't often get to eat such good food. What you need to do is ask your waiter for a doggy bag the minute you get your food. Than you need to put half of it away leaving the other half for you to eat. When you are done eating what was on your plate you'll be happy to know that you are full - but not uncomfortable and can enjoy the rest of your night without any guilt.

3. Drink, Drink, Drink

Drinking water is something that every nutritionist and doctor encourages because it is healthy for you. But did you know that it makes a great filler? The trick is to drink a glass of water before every big meal. This will help keep you from over eating because it will give you a feeling of being full. Make sure that you don't drink more than one glass before the meal. You still want to make sure that you eat the right amount of food that is good for you. Remember that water is the only good liquid filler to use. If you down a glass of soda before a meal it will definitely fill you up - but it will defeat the purpose of taking in too many calories at the meal.

These are some of the more important steps that will help you to break that habit. After just a few week of being faithful to it you will realize that you may not even need them. You will notice that what normally wouldn't fill you up will make you feel full without using any filler.
