The early days of a low carb diet are usually the hardest. Your body is just getting used to not being able to depend on a constant stream of carbs for energy. Once you've gotten over that stage and you've been eating low carb for a while, you may think that everything is going to be easy from now on.
However, you may find one day that even though you've been faithful to your low carb diet, you're no longer losing weight. You've reached a weight loss plateau, in which your body has adjusted to your new eating habits and your metabolism has altered so you continue to maintain the same weight despite being faithful to your low carb diet.
How do you cope with a weight loss plateau? You might that reducing your calorie intake a great deal will speed up your weight loss. In fact, eating a very low calorie diet will just make you hungry and increase your craving for high carb foods. In addition, if your calorie intake is too low, your body will think you are starving and slow down your metabolism to save energy, so that you end up gaining weight rather than losing weight.
Skipping meals can cause the same problems. In fact, you could be better off eating six small meals a day, instead of three large ones, to keep hunger pangs at bay.
As your activity level increases, the pounds will start dropping again. |
