If you've been on a low carb diet for a while, you may find that you're eating the same thing day after day, and you're getting bored with it. You might even be tempted to try some high carb foods, just to make your diet a little more interesting. Don't despair. You can stay on your low carb diet and still enjoy a variety of delicious foods. Here are some ways you can enjoy a tasty low carb lunch. It's true that you'll have to forget about sandwiches. They're high in carbs and therefore bad for your health. However, there are still many delicious alternatives to sandwiches.
Remember good old chef salads? - You can still eat them, and they're easy to prepare. Just add cheese, cold cuts and a hard-boiled egg to a green salad.
A more contemporary alternative is a meal salad. You can use any ingredients that you want in a meal salad.
When creating a meal salad, substitute dark greens for the more iceberg lettuce, as dark greens are more nutritious. If you are using a bottled dressing, check the carb content. Many dressings that have a reduced amount of oil or fat contain a fair amount of sugar to compensate for the loss of flavor that occurs when oil or fat is taken out. Therefore, if you want to use bottled dressings, be sure to check the package to see how much carbs they contain.
When you choose dressings, choose the ones that are made with oils that are rich in monounsaturated fats. A good ingredient for a salad dressing is olive oil.
If you want to be sure of what is included in a dressing, make your own. It won't take long at all. |
