Medifast is a diet that is designed for people who are seriously overweight and who are looking for a fast and secure way of losing it all. Medifast (also called the 5 and 1 plan) allows you to eat around 6 meals per day - one every 2-3 hours. 5 meals that you eat throughout the day are called meal replacements. Instead of eating the usual normal snack foods you will eat shakes, bars, oatmeal, and pudding. The last meal that you eat (for dinner) is made up of a small portion of meat and 2 cups of vegetables. What the diet does is throw your body into ketosis. Because of this it is very important that if you go on the diet you drink a minimum of 64oz. of water every day. You are allowed to drink soda and alcohol - but if you want to be healthy it is best you stay away from them. The best thing about this diet is that you don't have to exercise. If you feel that you should than try to stay away from any grueling exercises. This diet is not meant for you to build muscle. When you have reached your goal weight you will need to work your way back to eating the normal meals. This process takes about 16 days - sometimes longer. Once this is complete it is time to start that grueling exercise routine to make sure that you keep all the weight off for good. |
