Stop Cravings in Their Track

You may have chosen the diet that will work for you, but there is still that one problem: food cravings. Those foods that are high in fat and high in sugar like your usual cappuccino, your favorite piece of cake or chocolate bar won't give up the fight very easily. However, with proper motivation and management of cravings, they might not immediately go away, but at least you will be able to deal better with temptations.

One way to eliminate the temptation of giving in to these cravings is to dispose of all the foods that are high in sugar and fat in your refrigerator. If the chocolate cake you love is there and it looks very inviting, the chances are you will reach for it. While dieting, you may be in a very fragile state. The vat of ice cream in your freezer might just convince you to give up your diet and indulge in its sugary promises.

Stock your refrigerator up with fruits like apples, oranges and bananas. They can be sweet too, but they are a lot healthier and they give you more nutrition than cake or ice cream. If you really can't stop yourself, have very little bars of chocolate in your refrigerator. The idea is to avoid the temptation of over-indulging. Keeping bars that are made of athletes will not help, because these are rich in calories that manufacturers made for sportsmen who will be able to utilize those calories.

Be consistent with your water intake. Keep your body properly hydrated, but don't overdo it. Drinking too much water has been shown to be detrimental to the health. Dehydration signals of the body are very similar to hunger signals, so you may end up eating when your body just needs water. The correct levels of water intake will keep your cravings at a minimum.

Before going shopping, eat. Eating a balanced meal will help reduce food cravings. If you're already full, why would you care for that pint of ice cream? Seeing all those foods available to you might be detrimental to your willpower. If you must eat, bring along a piece of fruit to keep the cravings at bay.

Some people cut ‘bad food' out of their lives immediately and completely. They probably feel that if they indulge in a little bit, the harder it will be to stay on the diet. However, some people find this intolerable because they only experience increased craving intensity. The battle for control of your cravings is between you and your inner self. If you feel that you possess enough willpower, maybe a tiny little piece may serve as a reward rather than a cause of punishment.

Do everything in your power to control the portions of food that you eat. Moderation is the key. Tell yourself often that "this is enough, not one bit more" because if you indulge in more you will end up eating the whole thing.

Don't give up, no matter how lecherous or hard the road is. Keep personal reminders of your motivations. Why are you on a diet? It helps to establish your motivation because if your willpower is failing, your motivations will salvage you. You may want to feel more healthy, see yourself in a better way, lose weight, or become fit, or all of these. Keep a vision of yourself experiencing these, and work with all your might towards achieving it.
