Understanding your body is very important before you can choose what diet is best for you. Why? Everyone's body is different and unique. Not everyone gains weight the same way and not everyone can lose it the same way. You may have someone who has to eat only chicken and fish to stay healthy - while another person focuses on eating pork and beef.

The first step to understanding your body and knowing what it needs is crucial. You need to find out what type of metabolism your body runs on. There are three main types of metabolisms: fast, slow, and normal.

Those with a fast metabolism find that they can process foods very quickly (quicker than most) and most often do not have problems when trying to lose weight. Those with a slow metabolism have the hardest time trying to lose the weight and have an easy time putting it on because their bodies take along time to process the foods they are eating. Normal is in between fast and slow. These are people who don't gain very fast - but don't lose last fast either.

When you have discovered what type you are than you can better understand what foods to eat and what foods to stay away from. Doctors and many personal trainers know what type of foods would be best for your body type.
Once you have the necessary information you can create your meal list using the foods that work for your body and not against it. Eating the right foods along with exercise will help you towards your goal to a better you.
