The Cabbage Detox Diet: Advantages and Disadvantages

The concept of detoxification is not new; in fact, it has existed for many years. However, nowadays, people are becoming are more interested in detoxification than ever before.

This is probably due to a fear of exposure to the many toxins in our environment. Toxins can be found in foods that we eat every day as well as in the water and in the air.

Slow but continuous exposure to the many toxins present in our environment will inevitably lead to a build-up of toxins inside the body.

Today, one of the popular detoxification programs is the cabbage detox diet. Cabbage has been known to help prevent many illnesses including cancer.

The cabbage detox diet usually lasts for a week. When you are on the cabbage detox diet, you only eat raw cabbage or cabbage soup.

Not only will the cabbage detox diet eliminate toxins from your body, it will also help you lose weight.

The cabbage detox diet does have disadvantages.

First of all, it is limited in vitamins and nutrients compared to other diets.

Secondly, it can cause salt to build up in your body.

Finally, it is a bland diet and if you prefer to eating spicy foods or foods that are full of flavor you may have great difficulty tolerating.

Because the cabbage detox diet does not provide a balanced diet with all the vitamins and nutrients that a healthy body needs, you should not go on t his diet for a long time. Don't go on the cabbage detox diet more frequently than once about every 17 weeks.

If you want to detoxify your body but can't bear the thought of eating nothing but cabbages for a week, try eating lots of vegetables and raw fruit. Avoid starchy or fatty foods, sugar, caffeine and canned foods. Try to prevent toxins from building up in your body in the first place.
